WFTRA Nominated for a Pride of Place Award 2011
The WFTRA has been nominated by Dublin City Council for a Pride of Place Award which recognises contributions projects and community groups make to their local area.

The WFTRA is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year and to be nominated is at the same time is a doubly wammy. On the 18th August 2011, two judges from the Pride of Place Awards Committee spent the morning with the WFTRA committee old & new. The judges were shown photographs going back to 1971 and explained the story behind each one. The history of the hall was given, including how the Finglas West community gave a shilling a week to pay for the hall, the hamper club and how representatives from the hall used to collect money during the rent strikes. Trophies and medals were presented to the gentlemen who were fascinated by the achievements of the people of Finglas West.

The judges were very impressed with projects/activities that have been run and are still running in the hall. A demonstration from the local Irish Dancers and Cheerleaders was also given.

Decisions on the winners will be made in the Autumn. Fingers Crossed.
